Our Carpet Cleaning Process

Your MasterCare technician will pre-vacuum available carpeted areas and pre-treat high-traffic paths and other heavily used areas. We then use our truck-mounted cleaner to perform the hot water extraction process. The water is a soft water cleaning that is PH balanced, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable. If you would like our technicians to move your furniture at a small additional charge, please remove breakable items from the tops and insides of the furniture.

Carpet Cleaning & Protection FAQs

  • Do I need to vacuum before my service?

A light vacuuming in the areas to be cleaned is recommended but not required. Our crew will pre-vacuum the areas to be cleaned, because 70% of carpet soil is dry soil.

  • What method do you use for carpet cleaning?

The method we use for cleaning is pH balanced hot water extraction (commonly referred to as steam cleaning.) This is the method required by carpet manufacturers to maintain warranties. MasterCare’s exclusive hot water extraction method includes pre-treating the traffic & heavily soiled areas so that the cleaning process removes the toughest, deepest dirt safely and gently. Hot, soft water combined with earth friendly cleaning solutions are misted on carpet fibers. Then, powerful truck mounted extraction removes deep-down soils, allergens, the cleaning solutions and 95% of the moisture.

  • What do you consider an area?

Typically, an area is a room that is 250 square feet or less. Living room/dining room combos are considered two areas. Any area over 250 square feet but less than 400 square feet would incur a small additional charge. Areas greater than 400 square feet would be priced as two areas. Non-standard areas (baths, steps, landings, walk-in closets, etc.) are priced separately from the standard areas, usually at a lesser price.

  • How long will it take to clean my carpets?

On average, it will take approximately 20 minutes per area. This time can vary greatly depending on the amount of furniture to be moved, how soiled the carpet is, and any necessary stain removal treatments.

  • Do you move furniture?

Our technicians can move furniture at the time of service. This service includes moving the furniture out to the sides or to the center (whichever is most conducive to the cleaning), cleaning, then resetting the furniture in place with tabs/blocks underneath to protect from stain transfers. There is a slight additional charge for this service. We require all breakables, electronics to be removed from the furniture to be moved. Some restrictions may apply.

  • How long will it take for my carpet to dry?

Dry time is affected by humidity, temperature and air flow to the area. It can take between 8-24 hours for the carpet to thoroughly dry, depending on the aforementioned variables. Using fans in any areas cleaned and turning your air conditioning or heating system on/up, depending on the time of year, can help accelerate drying time. Be sure to leave the protective blocks under furniture legs until the carpet and/or furniture is completely dry to avoid any stain transfers. You may walk on your carpet immediately after cleaning, but avoid wearing street shoes, as they may re-soil your carpet. We suggest bare feet, clean socks or slippers. Be especially careful when walking from damp, carpeted areas onto non-carpeted areas to avoid slipping.

  • I have had my carpets cleaned, but the spots have reappeared. What should I do?

Although most soil that is removed from the carpet does not reappear, some substances in carpet (or pad) may wick to the surface as it dries. If this happens please contact MasterCare Inc. at 574-234-2500 within 36-48 hours of the original service. We will re-clean at no charge within the week of original service.  We will charge the minimum service call plus necessary treatment charges if stain, pet, odor or other treatments were recommended but declined at the original service. If additional stain treatment is recommended, we will offer an estimate for your consideration.

  • Do you guarantee removal of all spots or stains in the carpet?

We cannot guarantee that we will remove all spots or stains. There are substances that can permanently damage or discolor the carpet fibers. The age of the carpet and the type of carpet fibers also plays a factor in this. Our master technicians will try to determine if this is the case prior to cleaning but they are not always able to determine this before attempting to remove the spots. However, we always stand behind our service and will return for a re-clean of any we cleaned that are of concern – simply call us (574-234-2500) within 36-48 hours of the original service.

  • After my carpet was cleaned it has ripples or bumps in the carpet. What caused this?

When carpet is originally installed it should be power stretched. Improper installation can be a cause of rippling. Also, as carpet ages, the backing loosens and may need to be re-stretched. This is typically a sign that the carpet is in need of re-stretching. As the carpet dries, these bubbles or ripples will lay flat and return to its previous appearance.

  • Will carpet cleaning get rid of fleas/mites/bed bugs?

We cannot guarantee that the cleaning will eliminate infestations. We usually recommend that the customer address infestations with whichever method(s) they prefer, this is something that a professional exterminator might be able to assist with. Please keep in mind that the carpet is not the only “hosts” to eggs/larvae/bugs, you might consider having your upholstery treated and cleaned as well as any area rugs, drapery and/or pet bedding.

  • Why do your prices vary from other carpet cleaners?

When comparing prices, make sure to ask a lot of questions and please keep a few things in mind. Our price includes high quality cleaning products administered by our technicians (not sub-contracted) who are always background checked, drug tested and properly trained. This is what allows us to stand behind all of our work.

  • Why should I have protectant applied to my freshly cleaned carpets?

As the finishing touch to your thoroughly cleaned carpet and/or upholstery, a specially formulated protectant can be professionally applied. These products help carpet and upholstery resist soiling from dry soil, water- and oil-based spills by wrapping each fiber in a protective coating. This extra layer gives you more time to clean up spots and spills before they soak into the fibers or padding, helping you keep your carpet and upholstery looking its best between professional cleanings.

  • Does carpet come with a protectant?

A dry soil protectant comes on most carpet from the manufacturers. This is a wear dated product and is removed over time with everyday traffic. Carpet manufacturers recommend that you have this protectant reapplied approximately once a year and perhaps more often on heavy traffic areas.

  • How do you guarantee customer satisfaction?

We proudly boast the majority of our customers are repeat or referral business. This is a direct result of our commitment to delivering high quality service to our customers’ satisfaction. We are happy to work with you to address any situation that may arise. In some cases this can mean spot cleaning specific areas of concern or even completely re-cleaning the area in question. Please contact us within 36-48 hours of service 574-234-2500.
