Carpet Cleaning FAQ
Do I need to vacuum before my service?
A light vacuuming in the areas to be cleaned is recommended but not required. Our crew will pre-vacuum the areas to be cleaned, because 70% of carpet soil is dry soil. Also, our equipment is vacuuming the entire time we are cleaning.
What method do you use for carpet cleaning?
The method we use for cleaning is pH balanced hot water extraction (commonly referred to as steam cleaning.) This is the method required by carpet manufacturers to maintain warranties. MasterCare’s exclusive hot water extraction method includes pre-treating the traffic & heavily soiled areas so that the cleaning process removes the toughest, deepest dirt safely and gently. Hot, soft water combined with earth friendly cleaning solutions are misted on carpet fibers. Then, powerful truck mounted extraction removes deep-down soils, allergens, the cleaning solutions and 95% of the moisture.
What do you consider an area?
Typically, an area is a room that is 250 square feet or less. Living room/dining room combos are considered two areas. Any area over 250 square feet but less than 400 square feet would incur a small additional charge. Areas greater than 400 square feet would be priced as two areas. Non-standard areas (baths, steps, landings, walk-in closets, etc.) are priced separately from the standard areas, usually at a lesser price.
How long will it take to clean my carpets?
On average, it will take approximately 20 minutes per area. This time can vary greatly depending on the amount of furniture to be moved, how soiled the carpet is, and any necessary stain removal treatments.
Do you move furniture?
Our technicians can move furniture at the time of service. This service includes moving the furniture out to the sides or to the center (whichever is most conducive to the cleaning), cleaning, then resetting the furniture in place with tabs/blocks underneath to protect from stain transfers. There is a slight additional charge for this service. We require all breakables, electronics to be removed from the furniture to be moved. Some restrictions may apply.
How long will it take for my carpet to dry?
Dry time is affected by humidity, temperature and air flow to the area. It can take between 8-24 hours for the carpet to thoroughly dry, depending on the aforementioned variables. Using fans in any areas cleaned and turning your air conditioning or heating system on/up, depending on the time of year, can help accelerate drying time. Be sure to leave the protective blocks under furniture legs until the carpet and/or furniture is completely dry to avoid any stain transfers. You may walk on your carpet immediately after cleaning, but avoid wearing street shoes, as they may re-soil your carpet. We suggest bare feet, clean socks or slippers. Be especially careful when walking from damp, carpeted areas onto non-carpeted areas to avoid slipping.
I have had my carpets cleaned, but the spots have reappeared. What should I do?
Although most spots that are removed from carpet do not reappear, some substances in carpet (or pad) may wick to the surface after cleaning. If this happens please contact MasterCare Inc. at 574-234-2500 within 36-48 hours of the original service. We will re-clean at no charge within the week of original service. If additional stain treatment is recommended, we will offer an estimate for your consideration.
Do you guarantee removal of all spots or stains in the carpet?
We cannot guarantee that we will remove all spots or stains. There are substances that can permanently damage or discolor the carpet fibers. The age of the carpet and the type of carpet fibers also plays a factor in this. Our master technicians will try to determine if this is the case prior to cleaning but they are not always able to determine this before attempting to remove the spots. HOWEVER, we always stand behind our service and will return for a re-clean or re-touch of any unsatisfactory service – simply call us (574-234-2500) within 36-48 hours of the original service.
After my carpet was cleaned it has ripples or bumps in the carpet. What caused this?
When carpet is originally installed it should be power stretched. Improper installation can be a cause of rippling. Also, as carpet ages, the backing loosens and may need to be re-stretched. This is typically a sign that the carpet is in need of re-stretching. As the carpet dries, these bubbles or ripples will lay flat and return to its previous appearance. Will carpet cleaning get rid of fleas/mites/bed bugs?
We cannot guarantee that the cleaning will eliminate infestations. We usually recommend that the customer address infestations with whichever method(s) they prefer, this is something that a professional exterminator might be able to assist with. Please keep in mind that the carpet is not the only “hosts” to eggs/larvae/bugs, you might consider having your upholstery treated and cleaned as well as any area rugs, drapery and/or pet bedding.
